Camerawerk, of met een luxe benaming Cinematografie, is de basis van het werk van Crawfurd Film & Video.

Met camerawerk is het allemaal begonnen. Hoewel mijn opleiding aan de filmacademie de richting Beeld/Geluid/Montage betrof en ik dus ben opgeleid voor alle 3 beroepen, is camerawerk de basis van alles. Via camerawerk en de daarvan afgeleiden beeldregie en d�coupage kom je haast vanzelf bij regie terecht.

 

Maar camerawerk verrichten voor een bevlogen regisseur blijft nog altijd een feest. Het ontdekken wat een regisseur (onder)bewust wil bereiken en hoe je hem of haar daar het beste bij kan helpen is een avontuur dat ik telkens weer aan wil gaan. Camerawerk is een creatief en technisch beroep waarbij je in nauwe samenwerking met de regisseur werkt aan een film waar je beide trots op wil worden. Moeite doen om ook de niet uitgesproken wensen te begrijpen is daarvoor een belangrijke voorwaarde.

 

MULTI CAMERA

Ook camerawerk in een live multi-camera productie behoort tot mijn jarenlange ervaring. En dat is een totaal ander discipline dan werken met 1 camera. Anticiperen wat er zal gebeuren en vervolgens binnen een seconde een compositie maken hoort er bij.

 

 

EDITING

 

Mijn eerste vaste baan in Nederland was als online editor op 1 inch B formaat machines. Een hele overstap van monteren met film. Vanaf dat moment heb ik honderden films, items, reportages, documentaires en informatiefilms gemonteerd, zoals jarenlang VIS-TV en honderden items voor RTV Utrecht in mijn eigen AVID editing studio.

Ook kleurcorrectie heeft altijd tot mijn taken behoord. En tegenwoordig is daar erg veel mee mogelijk.

CAMERAWORK

 

Camerawork, or better cinematography, is the basis of Crawfurd Film & Video.

It all started with cinematography in spite of my education in Image/Sound/Editing. So I am trained in all 3 professions. Through cinematography, via directing and editing images and decoupage you almost automatically arrive at directing.

 

But working as a cinematographer for a visionary director still feels like a party. Discovering what a director (sub) consciously wants to achieve and how I can help to realize this is an adventure I want to engage in every time.

Cinematography is a creative and technical profession in which you work in close collaboration with a director, striving towards a film you both can be proud of. Putting in an effort to understand the unspoken wishes of the director is essential. 

 

MULTI CAMERA

A completely different form of camerawork I have a lot of experience with is being part of a multi-camera TV production. Anticipating what will happen and making a composition within a second is a totally different technique.

 

Since 1992 I owned my own 16mm and video equipment.

 

EDITING

 

My first regular job was as online editor with a Mach One system and 1 inch B format BCN machines. A totally different workflow than editing film. Since then I edited hundreds of films, items, reportages, documentaries and informational programs. Colour correction and audio editing has always been part of the job. Nowadays almost everything can be done in non-linear editing.

 

Since 1998 I owned my own non-linear editing set. And today a 4K editing and colour correction set.
